How the abortion pill (medical / medication abortion) works:

The first medication is a hormone blocker and is the only FDA-approved non-surgical option for early abortion. For more information regarding this medication click here.

The second medication helps your body gently start contractions so the contents of the uterus can be passed naturally. This process works for most people—about 95% to 97%—without any need for a surgical procedure. In a small number of cases (about 3% to 5%), a follow-up surgical procedure may still be needed to complete the process safely.
